Jerry Rice Toy Drive Huge Success The NFL Alumni Northern California Chapter hosted the Jerry Rice Annual Toy Drive on Saturday, December 8, 2007, at their Redwood City headquarters. The annual event was highlighted this year by an extraordinary donation of 30 bicycles from Target San Mateo and Intero Real Estate of San Mateo. Ralph Armenio of Intero Real Estate facilitated the donation and arranged for the bikes to be delivered just prior to the start of the day’s festivities. Over 500 people waited patiently in line to donate a toy and then have their photograph taken with football legend Jerry Rice. As they exited the building, they were treated to a meet and greet with Santa (R.C. “Ally Oops” Owens) Claus. A festival like environment was waiting for the attendees outside as over twenty different vendors set up booths selling sweets, African art, jewelry and assorted special items. NFL Alumni Dana McLemore, Larry Bates, Allan Kennedy, Mervin Fernandez were signed autographs Music was presented by KISS FM and live big band music by the Wallin and Barretta Group. FedEx provided almost 20 volunteers that helped organize and staff the event with NFL Alumni members. Event Chair Carolyn Hoskins said “This was our most successful toy drive ever. With the help of all, we will make a meaningful difference to hundreds of needy families.” Beneficiaries of the drive include the Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital and the Oakland Children’s Hospital. The NFL Alumni salutes its sponsors for the event FedEx Corporation, Intero Realty of San Mateo, Clear Armor, Good Tidings and James Rankin Bail Bonds.
