NFL Alumni Visits Oakland and Stanford Children's Hospitals A group of NFL Alumni made their annual visits to the Oakland Children's Hospital and the Lucile Salter Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford University on Tuesday, December 18th, and Wednesday, December 19th, bringing holiday cheer, toys, stuffed animals and many smiles to children on both sides of the bay. The NFL Alumni Northern California Chapter counts these visits as amongst its most meaningful activities of the year in their Caring For Kids Program. Gary Weaver, a member of the chapter’s executive committee and a former Oakland Raider, arranged the visits with hospital staff. Weaver said, “ I speak for all of us when I say that these visits have become some of the of the most important and meaningful of all the projects that we do all year.” He added “When you see the look of happiness on the children's faces, it makes us feel that whatever we are doing, we would like to do more.” Joining Weaver at the hospitals were Chapter President Steve Kinney, Gordy Soltau, Jerry Mertens, Frank Nunley, Len Rohde, Larry Schrieber, Mike Merriweather, Todd Lewis, Henry “Model T” Ford, Larry Bates and Executive Committee member Carolyn Hoskins. The Saddlerack in Fremont was also represented with employee participation at the Oakland Children's hospital. Also playing a major role in transporting the toys from the NFL Alumni Headquarters in Redwood City on both days were Debi Carrubba and Carm Meafua from FedEx.
