The NFL Alumni Northern California Chapter's 25th Annual Charity
Golf Classic benefiting it's Caring For Kids program held at the
Olympic Club in San Francisco on June 19, 2006 was a huge success.
The sold out double shotgun golf tournament was followed by an
entertaining evening program that honored Bill Walsh and commemorated
the San Francisco 49ers 1981 Super Bowl team.
NFL Films graciously allowed the NFL Alumni to have some
very special footage on Bill Walsh that included his diagramming of the
play "The Catch" and going over it prior to the championship game.
In footage previously viewed by very few, Walsh is seen diagramming
the play on the blackboard and telling his team they will use that
play at the end of the game when the Cowboys " are tired and all
they can think about is getting back to Dallas."
The Hall of Fame Coach's acceptance speech
was vintage Walsh as he spoke with humor and candor about the
tough times in the early years with the 49ers and what it meant
to him personally to represent the 49ers and the city of San
Francisco.
The evening included a live auction that
had items such as trips to Hawaii, Europe, New York,
a trip on the 49ers Charter, and the Super Bowl.
49ers Head coach Mike Nolan, in a kidding
manner, tried to bid on a package donated by the Raiders for
a visit to their training camp.
Members of the 1981 who attended included
Keena Turner, Eric Wright, Dwight Hicks, Charle Young,
Johnny Davis, Earl Cooper and several more.
Guests for the event were also treated to a wide
array of some of the great stars in the history of the game such
as Y.A. Tittle and Bob St. Claire, along with current players and
coaches such as Alex Smith, Cody Pickett, and Norv Turner.
All in all is was a big win for Caring
For Kids.
