| The NFL Alumni Northern California Chapter
hosted its annual NFL Draft Day Party at the Santa Clara Hilton on April 29th.
49ers Head Coach Mike Nolan and team owner Dr. John York attended and updated
several hundred fans on the 49ers first picks in the 2006 NFL Draft.
Nolan spoke in glowing terms about the team's first round
selection (the number six overall pick) Vernon Davis, a tight end from Maryland.
He was equally excited about the 49ers second selection in the first round (22ND
pick) defensive end Manny Lawson from North Carolina State.
Dr. York then took the microphone and talked to
the group about his confidence in Mike Nolan and Vice President
of Player Personnel Scott McLoughan, and specifically about their
preparation and execution for this year's draft.
The evening was made even more memorable by a
surprise visit from Mr. C. In Heaven (Mr. C does a Howard Cosell
act that is as close to the real Cosell as there has ever been)
who facilitated the live auction of a cherished 49ers helmet signed
by 11 49er Hall of Famers.
