Letter from our Chapter President
Dear Participants and Sponsors: As President of the NFL Alumni Northern California Chapter, I thank you for your generous support of our mission; "Caring for Kids." The NFL Alumni members are bound by a shared experience; that is football. The National Football Foundation Center for Youth Development through Sport says that football may be unique among sports in providing participants opportunities to learn about themselves and understand and appreciate differences in others. These two skills require open communication and are at the core of building relationships that are based on trust and acceptance. So, it is no wonder that the unique character of our organization has such a favorable community impact, especially on our young people. Through football we learn about our strengths and weaknesses and how our individual contributions fit into a larger team. We have to be cognizant of our teammate's abilities and be willing to allow ourselves to trust others to achieve success. The amount of self-understanding, communication, and valuing of differences required can go along way toward providing the impetus young people need for success in our society. Jack Kemp said, "A successful team walks onto the field with issues of race, religion, and all societal pressures ratcheted down to inconsequential by the strength of common goals." This is the message that we in the NFL Alumni hope every young person, both boys and girls, will come away with after interaction with our membership. Thanks again for your desire to help others and thank you for your commitment to Caring for Kids. Sincerely, Steven Kinney Northern California Chapter
